The original Oldsmobile Silhouette was weird, quirky, and bizarre. It was also the original luxury minivan, and today I'm reviewing the Silhouette to show you what it was like. I am also going to show you the quirks and features of the Silhouette, and I will show you how the Oldsmobile Silhouette drives.

If I were to list my favorite reviews, it would include the Vector W8 and this - the 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette. It would be the only list, ever, that includes both the Vector W8 and the 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette.

Also they had the Pontiac version of this 9n display as a "concept" vehicle at Disney World in Florida in the mid-80s. It was the most futuristic, neato thing that anyone ever saw at the time. People were having their pictures taken sitting in it.

I've seen those near 20 years old, rusted out and the doors nearly falling off but they were still running so the quality couldn't have been that bad. I think they put the bulletproof 3800 engine in those at one point too.

@Charlotte Bingham Are u a Billionaire? Wtf are u talking about, are you insane? You want people lose their money, is that what you want? I tried every of those trading Systems and none of them worked I lost my MF money there and that's it, no money making like crazy only money losing like nothing..

Life is too short to be working for someone else's dream. Be a billionaire of your own. If you want to go big, stop thinking small. successful people are not people who never fail, but people who never quit. If you want to be a billionaire, then think like one, act like one, and live like one because there’s no other greater joy than having financial freedom and a life free of debts, All thanks to Mr carlos cause he made me who I am today through forex trade. He has helped me a lot with his trading strategies which helps me to earn $12,550 weekly with an initial investment of $1,000. I really appreciate it and can't help but let others know about it. it is so suitable anyone can trade from anywhere and anythime, reach out to Mr carlos on IG @carlos_1uptrades. his indeed a God Sent.

My buddies and i used to take a road trip from Tucson to California's Bay Area each year in a rental minivan. One year we ended up renting a Silhouette. I loved it. Six big guys all fit, with some tetris skills being utilized for all of our gear. It had plenty of power for screaming across the desert at night for a good portion of the trip. We discovered that the odd ventlike rear windows had the unfortunate effect of stirring up and redistributing a horriffic fart when the most bovine of our group suffered gastric discomfort. We hoped to rent one the next year (fart event hopefully avoided) but by then Budget rentacar no long had Silhouettes to rent.

120 hp.... Yeah that isn't really enough for a minvan. I mean I had a 97 Civic with 127 HP and I thought even that was a bit under powered. Heck even the newer Ford Focuses (from 2008-2011) were a bit underpowered too (but had 140 HP).

i have the eu pontiac trans sport from 1995 with the l27 3800 v6 engine and its one of those cars that nobody knows what it is in europe let alone in the netherlands where i live only a few older people recognize it because they knew someone who had one or some garages that know these cars. on the technical side of things its still a somewhat easy vehicle to work on and its actually really reliable and affordable to maintane tho you have to provide ALL the informationhen you want to buy a part or have a garage or other people work on it because they simply dont care or they act like a its from a different universe aka very dumb and short sighted, but the parts are still available and failrly cheap from sensors to mechanical parts like waterpump or solenoids, in fact the first part that had to be replaced was camshaft sensor which was after 17 YEARS! and then the next part that stopped working was a transmission position sensor for around 200 euro and egr valve for 180 euro after 24 YEARS! but i only had a engine light come on when those things broke and i had to go rotterdam to an american car importer that had these cars as service vehicles to read out the codes because its obd 1 after that a water pump broke and the windshield wiper motor went out so i replaced with a motor from a junkyard in amsterdam for 30 euros who knew about this car and specializes in american vehicles and then a power steering return hose/piping rusted out luckily i was close to home when it happend i parked the car on a lot, walked to gas station bought some brake fluid and drove it back to home and 1 week i got the part wich was made from rvs instead of iron and replaced and as of now after 25 years i am reparing some rust holes in the wheel wells that where the reasoning it didnt pass inspection and a vacuum modulator stopped working on the transmission for about 80 euros as it sits right now it has 155000 km all driven in the netherlands. as for cool factor and stuff the car is cool to my friends only because its old, has a v6 wich is very rare nowadays in the netherlands and is very roomy with enough space to sit 7 people comfortable and thats the one thing EVERYBODY agrees one when come to american cars even this one, it drives very smooth relaxed supple and comfortably on any road better then any new car today i am talking people who new audis bmw mercedes and stuff who say that this car still drive better then theirs. i tried to keep the car on the road for as long as possible as original as possible and as reliable as i can because its just a experience nothing or nobody can replicate in this modern day BS tech and possibiliy for anyone that doesn't understand this reasoning or just doesn't agree with me i recommend you to watch some classic car reviews of REGULAR CAR REVIEWS doen't matter which one just listen to man he nails the sentiment and thought and feeling behind these kind of older cars or classic cars and why people still keep them and drive them.

I saw a weird prototype for one of these as a kid at an auto-show in 1990... In this prototype version, the front portion detached from the rear portion, so you could drive the front portion around as a super compact 2-seat smart car... Then when it was time to pickup the kids, you can hitch back onto the rear portion and it became a van again...

My sister had a BLK Chevy Lumina APV. It had a really bouncy but smooth ride and was pretty weird but got the family around without too many issues. I used to see them alot in the 90's and remember seeing new APVs and Pontiac Transports on rental lots at airports when we traveled. I even remember my dad renting a Cutlas Supreme and my great aunt having a Cutlas Sierra. Great uncle bought a new LSS just before his stroke and died. The LSS still had a NC paper tag and plastic on the seats! Best friend had a 97 Aurora. I miss Oldsmobile!!!

Acceleration score 1 just like the 2018 Honda Odyssey. Boy the Oldsmobile Silhouette most must have been quick back in its day. The 18 through 21 Odyssey can go from 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds. With those times it receives a Doug score of 1 just like the Odyssey So can you imagine a vehicle especially this silhouette hitting zero to 60 in under 7 Seconds. Or could I be wrong that any vehicle that goes from 0 to 60 in over 6.5 seconds receive a Doug score of 1. I never thought I'd see the day a 6-second vehicle would be considered Pokey. Back in the 80s early 90s a 0 to 60 time of 6-7 seconds woulld have been some of the quickest cars on the road. My 87 Mustang 5.0 GT which recorded a 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds according to Road & Track. By this standard in 30 years your minivan will hit 60 in 2 seconds and this will be considered Pokey. Maybe in the future your average vehicle will do a quarter mile in seven seconds.

My wife and I were given a free Lumina APV upon moving home from getting out of the navy. It was in mint condition too. As ugly as that thing was and a turning radius worse than a school bus, it helped us get on our feet and save for a house and a preowned Honda Odyssey touring. Night and day difference! The crazy thing was that because it was all aluminum body/doors and plastic panels, it had no deterioration or rust in the body whatsoever.

SUV's aren't "cool" either. They had that perception at one time compared to minivans, but not so much anymore. It's like saying Starbucks is 'cooler' than McDonald's at this late date, with more of the former than the latter nearly everywhere. So much for the over-priced, bitter coffee chain's "exclusivity".
